Wenzel Hoffmann, incisore ed editore praghese, nacque a Kukus, nella odierna Repubblica Ceca, nel 1788 e morì a Praga nel 1850. Fu "figlio d'arte", in quanto il padre, Anton Hoffman, fu uno stimato incisore e che insegnò al figlio il mestiere. Molto varia fu la produzione di Wenzel Hoffman che annovera incisione su rame, molte colorate a mano e molte con applicazioni di foglia dorata, tipiche della produzione praghese della prima metà del XIX secolo. Sicuramente fu uno dei più grossi editori e commercianti di santini e immaginette devozionali nella Praga della prima metà del 1800, ma nonostante questo, la sua fama non raggiunse mai le vette di altri artisti e editori contemporanei e conterranei, tipo Maulini, Rudl e Koppe.

Wenzel Hoffmann, engraver and publisher in Prague, was born in Kukus, in today's Czech Republic, in 1788 and died in Prague in 1850. Acting ran in his family, as his father, Anton Hoffman, was a respected engraver and printmaker and taught his son the trade. Varied was the production of Wenzel Hoffman that includes copper engraving, often hand colored, and many with applications of gold leaf, typical of the Prague production of the first half of the nineteenth century. Surely he was one of the biggest publishers and dealers in devotional prayer cards and holy cards in Prague in the first half of 1800, but despite this, his fame never reached the heights of other contemporaries and fellow artists and publishers, such as Maulini, Koppe and Rudl.
