Rarissimo, eccezionale santino di valore storico artistico museale. Incisione di Sidrach Willemsens, incisore di Anversa. Le scarsissime notizie che abbiamo sulla vita di questo incisore, le possiamo ricavare dal libro di Theodore Van Lerius "Biographies d'artistes anversois" del 1881. Nacque nel 1626 fu battezzato il 6 settembre nella cattedrale di Anversa; suo padrino di battesimo fu nientemeno che Abraham van Merlen, famosissimo incisore dell'epoca. Il nome Sidrach fu preso dalla Bibbia ed è uno dei tre bambini fatti gettare in una fornace ardente da Nabuconosor e usciti illesi. Dai documenti della Gilda di San Luca, ritroviamo Sidrach apprendista incisore nella bottega dei Van Merlen, presumibilmente di Abraham, suo padrino, ma potrebbe anche esserlo stato di Theodore, comunque egli aveva circa 14/15 anni. Diviene incisore della Gilda dopo una decina di anni. Di questo artista molti lavori sono andati perduti. Memorabile è una sua incisione di un Sant'Antonio abate, da un'opera di David Teniers il Giovane. La tecnica usata nel presente santino lo fa assomigliare moltissimo ad una xilografia, ma è sicuramente un bulino su lastrina di rame. Misura dell'incisione cm. 6,3 x 9, del cartoncino 9,3 x 12.
Very Rare, exceptional holy card of historical and artistic museum value. Etching by Sidrach Willemsens, engraver in Antwerp. The scant information we have about the life of this artist, we can extract from the book by Theodore Van Lerius "Biographies d'artistes anversois" of 1881. He was born in 1626 and was baptized on September 6 at the Cathedral of Antwerp, and his godfather was none other than Abraham van Merlene, famous engraver of that time. The name Sidrach was taken from the Bible and is one of three children made a cast into the fiery furnace by Nabuconosor escaped unharmed. The documents of the Guild of Saint Luke, find Sidrach apprentice engraver in the workshop of the Van Merlen, presumably by Abraham, his godfather, but could also had been of Theodore, though he was about 14/15 years. Becomes engraver Guild after a decade. Many jobs of this artist have been lost. Memorable is an engraning of his of St. Anthony Abbot, after a work by David Teniers the Younger. The technique used in this holy card does look very much a woodcut, but it is definitely a burin on copper plate. Measure of the only etching cm. 6.3 x 9, of the card cm. 9.3 x 12 cad.
